Periodontology has developed rapidly over the past 30 years, with a growing number of specialized treatments. The specific operation type is determined by the periodontologist's judgment based on clinical needs. Prior to the procedure, scaling and oral hygiene instruction are usually carried out.

Preparations Before Periodontal Surgery

A successful surgery requires careful clinical preparation:

Evaluating the patient's medical history for suitability.
Providing detailed information about risks and benefits to obtain consent.
Assessment of any infections, abscesses, or lesions in the surgical area.
Analyzing the state of the jawbone, teeth, and overall oral environment.

The Operation Stage

While each periodontal procedure is unique, they typically last between 30 and 90 minutes. For maximum patient comfort, most procedures are performed under local anesthesia, though sedation or general anesthesia options are available if needed.

Sterilization is paramount. We use disposable sterile covers for all equipment and the entire surgical environment. During the procedure, the gingiva is carefully moved to expose the root surface for targeted treatment, such as root flattening or granulation tissue removal.

Once the procedure is complete, the periodontist applies necessary sutures using specialized materials. These stitches are typically removed after 7 to 10 days.

Recovery and Restoration Phase

To ensure optimal healing, please follow these post-operative guidelines:

Take prescribed medications as directed by your periodontist.
Strictly avoid tobacco use during the healing process.
Consume only soft and lukewarm foods for the first few days.
Maintain meticulous dental hygiene as instructed.
Avoid vigorous exercise and heavy physical activity.

A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for suture removal and healing monitorization. Temporary sensitivity in the teeth and gums is normal and usually subsides shortly.
