Screw-retained prostheses provide good chewing function and aesthetic appearance. They can be easily removed, cleaned, and maintained.
Also known as screw-supported implant prostheses or screw-retained teeth, in this procedure, prostheses are fixed onto implants not by cementing but by screwing. This method, which has been used at increasing rates for 30 years, has become quite widespread in the last 10 years. Because today, many advantages of screw-retained prostheses over cemented (bonded) prostheses have been identified. Screw-retained prostheses produced very precisely require very detailed work both in the laboratory and in the clinic. The experience of the laboratory and clinic you work with is important.
In our clinic, we have been paying attention to making implant prostheses screw-retained for many years. Sometimes a screw-retained prosthesis may not be possible due to angle, occlusion, adjacent teeth, etc. However, if possible, screw-retained prosthesis is always our first choice.
Advantages
- Not using an adhesive product in the mouth is an important advantage.
- The screw can be removed immediately when needed because it is very easy to remove and install. Solving problems with abutment screw loosening is very easy.
- If a suspicious situation is noticed during control, it can be removed immediately and examined underneath.
- If any repair is needed, it can be removed without damage and sent to the laboratory.
Disadvantages
- Requires very precise laboratory and clinical processes.
- Prosthesis parts and production are slightly more costly than cemented (bonded) prostheses.
- Cannot be applied in every case due to implant position.
